We’re not the only ones who think this kind of awareness is beneficial—science does too. MRI scans have shown how the brain actually changes when we are mindful, meaning we focus on the present, our surroundings and our breath.

Stress Reduction

MRIs show the gray matter in the amygdala, the “fight or flight” region responsible for stress, actually shrinks. This physically reduces how much stress we feel. 

Improve Complex Emotional Control

Those same MRIs show the pre-frontal cortex getting thicker. This area of the brain helps with problem solving, planning, impulse control and managing emotional reactions. 


After practicing mindfulness scans show the area of the brain that aids memory and learning, the hippocampus, also grows thicker and becomes stronger.

Who We Are

Our founder, Kayla Mason, developed Breathe KC out of a need to gain control of her own health and wellbeing. As an engineer overseeing multi-million dollar development projects across the country, her schedule took a negative toll on her mind and body. She became a student of health, wellness, and mindfulness. 

Both personally and professionally she has experienced life-changing, transformative benefits from simple, daily mindful practices. And so can you.
