We go about our days, breathing without thinking. It’s an automatic function of our bodies. But how many intentional breaths do you take? If you’ve ever tried to focus on your breath, even for a moment, you know how challenging it can sometimes be.
That’s where we come in.
At Breathe KC, we understand how demanding life is. We all have the entire world—all of its bad news, hardships and mind-numbing content at our fingertips, 24/7. Technology and competition have done away with the 40-hour workweek. In fact, Americans are the most overworked developed nation in the world.
We invite you to just stop, right now, and Breathe.
What Do We Do at Breathe?
We celebrate all things mindful in the Kansas City area. We know the benefits that come from making this practice part of your life. You can check out our calendar of upcoming events to find local training, classes and other healing events centered around mindfulness like:
- Mindfulness for specialized groups
We Come to You
We know you can’t always take a time out when you need it most—at work. This is why we created Breathe @ Work. We travel to your workspace and help you nurture a more cooperative, engaging and team-focused environment. Through tailored mindfulness techniques, each employee will be better equipped to center themselves and help others do the same.
For the same price as a team lunch, we can help you foster a healthier and a more productive workforce.
Stress is affecting your employees and hitting your bottom line. In a recent study, 80 percent of workers, on a scale of one to ten, said their overall stress was a seven or greater. 70 percent of workers either miss five hours of work a week because of stress or spend five work hours a week thinking about their stressors. We can help you get that productivity back.
Why Is Mindfulness So Important?
We are firm believers in the benefits of paying attention to the mind-body connection while breathing into your surroundings, the present moment and connecting to your whole existence. These practices can include:
- Mindfulness training and events
We’re not the only ones who think this kind of awareness is beneficial—science does too. MRI scans have shown how the brain actually changes when we are mindful, meaning we focus on the present, our surroundings and our breath.
MRIs show the gray matter in the amygdala, the “fight or flight” region responsible for stress, actually shrinks. This physically reduces how much stress we feel.
Improve Complex Emotional Control
Those same MRIs show the pre-frontal cortex getting thicker. This area of the brain helps with problem solving, planning, impulse control and managing emotional reactions.
After practicing mindfulness scans show the area of the brain that aids memory and learning, the hippocampus, also grows thicker and becomes stronger.
The mindfulness skills we teach your staff will not just make them calmer and more productive employees, but happier and healthier human beings.
Who We Are
Our founder, Kayla Mason, developed Breathe KC out of a need to gain control of her own health and wellbeing. As an engineer overseeing multi-million dollar development projects across the country, her schedule took a negative toll on her mind and body. She became a student of health, wellness, and mindfulness.
Both personally and professionally she has experienced life-changing, transformative benefits from simple, daily mindful practices. And so can you.
